Preserve materials that were presented or published

Keywords:  Preserve, Publish

Activity Definition(s)

Once the results of scholarly or artistic projects have been presented (as at conferences, colloquia, seminars) or published (in print or electronic journals, other means), they are typically preserved for further discovery and use.  This preservation may take place as conference proceedings, within disciplinary or scholarly society archives, within an institutional repository, in art museums, or other means.

  • Collect (all components of) the full digital contents of the scholarly or artistic work.
  • Perform any media or format conversion as needed.
  • Establish the intellectual-property rights situation over the various versions of the scholarly or artistic work.
  • Obtain any necessary third-party permissions.
  • Assemble appropriate version of the presentation or publication as needed. (This may not be, and typically is not, the final published version.)
  • Capture appropriate medatata, licensing/reuse information, credit requirements, and embargo/special-access needs.
  • Optionally capture underlying research materials or methods used in the project.
  • Submit the final results to the conference organization, scholarly society or publisher, and/or Preserve materials in a digital storage facility.
