Scholarly Networking

Charter

(a) The Scholarly Networking group shall evaluate existing social networking and VRE platforms and evaluate their suitability as the basis for a scholarly network and/or a platform for scholarly networking widgets, based on criteria including use of common standards, adequate security of data.

(b) The Scholarly Networking group shall be involved in the development of scholarly networking widgets by serving as beta testers and providing feedback to the development team. The group shall also implement one or more reference environments for use with the widgets.

(c) Based on their evaluation of existing platforms, the Scholarly Networking group shall be responsible for deciding on a collaboration platform for the Bamboo community during the implementation phase of the project.

(d) The Scholarly Networking group shall be responsible for drafting elements of the Bamboo Program Document, as identified by the Program Staff. Elements of the Bamboo Program Document will be the basis of a Bamboo Implementation Proposal to the Mellon Foundation's RIT program, to be submitted in October 2009.

To express interest in and volunteer for this working group, send email to: scholarly_networking_wg@lists.berkeley.edu; include "Working Group Interest" in the subject line. The membership list and work of this working group will be posted on the Bamboo planning wiki.

Workshop 3 to Workshop 4: Network Evaluations

Scholarly Networking group members will be evaluating existing networks both as a potential standalone platform for a scholarly network, and as a potential platform for scholarly "widgets" (plug-ins that provide additional features geared towards scholars.)
Evaluations are only viewable by logged-in users.
