Tools and Services Registry
In an effort to enable members of the campus community to discover, compare, and select technology efficiently and, to the degree possible, by themselves, the Deputy CIO, Michael Mundrane has funded a project currently entitled the Tools and Services Registry (TSR).
The TSR will be a tool or set of tools that will present human-readable information about technology to any campus constituent. It will be crowd-sourced by members of the campus community with descriptive information; support and usage data across campus; links to developer information such as SLAs, APIs and service protocols; cost; and product reviews and feedback. Where possible, it will also provide connection points between users and communities of practice who utilize a specific technology. It will link to both the IST Services Catalog and the IST Knowledge Base.
In its initial phase it will be targeted to serve the needs of campus IT staff and central and departmental service providers. In subsequent phases, it will be made more user friendly to serve a more general audience. Future phases may also include a machine-readable service registry for campus developers.
The name of this tool(s) is currently being reviewed.
