Accomplishment: Supported deployment activities for external CollectionSpace partners (SMK, MMI, Walker), and preparing for more.
We are providing technical support, facilitating customizations, and simplifying installation and use of the system for partners around the world.
The CollectionSpace project will provide a common, scalable solution for managing museum and research collections across the campus, and eventually across the system. This replaces a number of aging systems based upon obsolete technologies, and that require considerable overhead to support and maintain. It adds significant new functionality, provides accessible web-based interfaces, and leverages current enterprise technologies for security and stability.
To ensure the sustainability of the project, we are engaged with a community of museums, and are supporting their initial deployments. In return, they are helping with testing, issues around internationalization, and models for hosting CollectionSpace as a service.
This impacts the campus museums and research collections that are supported by IST:
Because of the broad impact of these research collections, the indirect impact spans much of the research and teaching mission of the University. In addition, the practices and approaches to migration of these initial collections provide a template for additional deployment activities in the coming years.
These deployments are part of a larger community effort to share templates, tools, and experiences to provide better tools with a more sustainable model.
