"To Bamboo" means "To Advocate"

Description

One key role of Bamboo going forward should be to serve as an advocate for the needs of the arts/humanities/interpretive social sciences research community.  This is modeled on a successful role we see occurring with the CNI organization on behalf of its constituencies.

Bamboo can advocate for reuse and sharing of studies of researcher needs and the resultant tools/services, such as Minnesota's Mellon-funded project "A Multi-Dimensional Framework for Academic Support" (see http://www.lib.umn.edu/about/mellon/index.phtm).

Bamboo can advocate for faculty promotion and tenure issues based on digital research methods and projects, for the benefits of new digital scholarship and publication models, for open access to these resources, and the like.

Bamboo can advocate for a practical, actionable vision for arts/humanities/interpretive social sciences cyberinfrastructure, going beyond the ACLS study, and going beyond the confines of what Bamboo sets out to accomplish.

Bamboo can advocate for funding initiatives from NEH, NEA, Mellon and other agencies (even NSF) to support this vision.

Bamboo can advocate for legislative, policy, or programmatic issues and concerns shared by its community.

And so forth.  So, "To Bamboo" can mean, in part, "To Advocate."  This, in turn, contributes to the sustainability of this initiative.
